I went to watch Avatar in 3D. I must say that I have seen "better" 3D movies, of which the best experience was "Journey to the centre of the earth." Now do not understand me wrong. The 3D experience adds depth to ANY movie and with Avatar it was great to feel like you are inside that world, flying on the back of a Banshee or maybe even better a Toruk. It brought a greater experience of the world and helped to pull you into it. The reason I made the statement is because Journey to the centre of the earth was more enjoyable as it had more 3D aspects in the form of things flying off the screen looking like it's going to hit you in the face.
The creativity behind the movie was mind blowing. I always enjoy seeing what people would think aliens to be like. The creatures were very dinosaur inspired, but still turned out great. The world and flora was absolutely beautiful. I suspect I would have been much less weird or different if I were to live in those situations.
The movie was too cliche for my liking, so the story line went lost on me. It did base it's story around a point that I feel strong about. How humanity believes we own everything and can do what we want. It also brought home the fact that we are destructive. If we cannot have something, we will take it, even if we have to destroy whatever is in our way.
Sure there will be some uproar from a small percentage of people, but eventually all will go forgotten because the majority of humanity just don't give a fuck.
I believe the real problem to be in controlling numbers. If humanity controls it's numbers, the world would be in a much better place. We just keep expanding in numbers and killing everything in the way to make way and space to accommodate the increase in numbers.
Good movie, great creativity, shitty story line, but strong foundation which they built it on.
